For many years medium and large volume mailers have used presort software to take advantage of discounts with the United States Postal Service (USPS). However, mailers who use presort software alone often do not realize the benefits and the tremendous advantages that can be achieved by utilizing post-presort software in conjunction with their presort software.
Recent changes at the USPS - designed to streamline and improve the way mail is accepted for Intelligent Mail are encouraging, and in some cases requiring, electronic rather than paper submission of mailing documents.
Although presort software is necessary and very powerful, one of its limitations is that it can be difficult and time-consuming to make any changes to the mailing once the presort is complete. Using post-presort software, a mailer can make last-minute changes to the mailing (i.e., changing the piece-weight and/or entry point, etc.) and not have to re-run the presort.
Hardcovers generally consist of pages, two boards and a cloth covering them. Their pages are glued into a flexible piece between the boards, and it too is covered by the cloth. A paper covering, usually artistic in nature, is put over the cloth, folding over each horizonal end of the boards. On the folded part over the front cover is generally a blurb, or a summary of the book. On the back folded part is where the biography of the author and/or illustrator can be found. Reviews are often placed on the back of the jacket.
