Additionally, most of the books are listed in The National Union Catalogue, issued several times a year infour editions. Most public and private libraries subscribe to it. The PCN must be requested prior to the publication of the book so that the number may be printed on thecopyright page.
The LCCN or PCN number appears on the copyright page ofeach book and are also included in lists and reviews appearing in the leading journals of the Printing Companies book trade. ThePCN differs from the ISBN in that one ISBN is assigned to each different edition of a work (hardcover, softcover, etc.); the PCN number is assigned to the work itself, no matter how the books are printed or bound. Use of thenumber enables subscribers to the Library of Congress?¡¥s Catalog Card Service to order bibliographic data by number and thus eliminate the searching fee. PCNnumbers are essential if you want to sell to libraries.
