Compare with casebound book printing /hardcover book prinitng, paperback book printing/softcover book printing, there're several ways for coil book printing.
The binding method of coil book printing including: wire -O sprial bound printing, ring bound printing, comb binding book printing.

Please note if the wire-o coils are concealed under the case, the endpaper should be very heavy, above 250gsm at least. Because the endpaper will function to hold the text body, thin stock will lead it destroyed and tear from the board. But if the wire-o coils are unconcealed or semi-concealed, 120gsm wood free paper could perform as endpaper normally.
Spiral and comb coils are normally workable for unconcealed books due to not very flexible for other two versions.
Ring binding normally is available for concealed bookbinding, because the rivets and ring binder should be fixed on the spine. So a case or just a bar is necessary.
For softcover books printing, all coil materials are workable. The specifications for these books do no differ from the ones of other softcover books. Here's the diagram for some of the coil binding, it's easy to undterstand how the different binding works.
F & G means folding and gathering when printed sheets come out from cylinders and dry in 24 hours normally. Meanwhile, the case could be made based on specific binding requirements. For smythe sewn binding, the endpaper should be adhesived to first and last signature before gathering, and then sew the F & G into untrimmed bookblock. During casing in process, H/T hands, backing liner and paper etc will be involved before final book finished, which is obviously different from softcover book printing job. The case normally consists of grey board and PLC, sometimes PLC can be replaced with cloth or leather materials as customer's requirement. Hardcover smythe sewn binding book differs from wire-o book printing job, spiral book printing job, comb book printing job and ring book printing job. These coil books normally only have 4pp endleaves adhesived to the case firstly but not the first & last signature. What is more, the case and book block are jointed together through various coils after being punched diversely, but not connected together by endpaper.
